Multiple Liver Cell Adenomas in Type I Glycogen Strorage Disease

Abstract
Liver cell adenoma(LCA) is an uncommon benign neoplasm occurring in various conditions including oral contraceptive or androgen users, type I glycogen storage disease(GSD) and spontaneous occurrence. In comparison with other forms, LCA occurring
in
type
I GSD has usually been noted multiple and male preponderant.
A 12-year-old Korean body presented with hepatomegaly since his age of 6 months after birth. Type I GSD suggested with liver biopsy during portocaval shunt surgery Serum alkaline phosphatase and aminotransferases were elevated. Abdominal computed
tomography at the age of 12 years revealed multiple well demarcated, low density nodules of variable size in both lobes of the liver. Needle biopsy from the tumor showed mature liver tissue which was composed of uniform large hepatocytes in
two-cell
cords. Prominently visualized were more closely approximated vessels which accompanied no protal space and many hepatocytes showed intracytoplasmic glycogen particles and nuclear hyperglycogenosis. To our knowledge, this is the first case of
multiple
LCAs occurring in type I GSD in Korean literature.(Korean J Gastroenterol 1994 ; 26 : 586-591)
